Samuel began his fellowship at the O'Brien Institute in August of 2009. Sam received his training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to his surgical training he completed his MD/PhD from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. His PhD was on the functional analysis of peripheral nerve regeneration in rats and has also studied the functional anatomy of bird wings and the evolution of flight. At the O'Brien Institute he is working on a project studying the function of stem cell derived cardiomyocytes using calcium imaging and microelectrode array analysis in vitro.
